The Director General gives direction to the directorates falling within the Public Health Regulation Division to ensure that the regulatory functions emanating from law are properly discharged. The Director General assists and advises the Ministry on the formulation of regulations and standards and ensures that regulations and standards which are promulgated by Government are implemented by both state and private service providers. It is the responsibility of the Director General to monitor standards, license and inspect health care services and, where necessary, enforce regulations. The Director General also performs the duties of Chief Government Medical Officer and Superintendent of Public Health in terms of law.

This office is responsible for the general administration of the Office of the Director General as well as the transmission of media releases and notifications to the public. It also provides administrative support to the other units falling under the DG Office.

Legal Office

 
   

The main role of this office is to provide legal assistance to the administration especially in the drafting of regulations, guidelines and laws. This office also deals with court cases instituted against the Division or which the Division itself institutes against third parties.

Pharmaceutical Unit

 
   

This unit is responsible for and coordinates the administrative and technical aspects of legislation, policies and guidelines regarding pharmaceutical policy on a national level.
